Counselling and longer term psychotherapy can provide a non-judgemental and confidential space to explore feelings and thoughts to gain insights into any problems you may be experiencing. Therapy is a personal exploration - a process of self-discovery and growth leading to self-understanding and positive changes. Working through a counselling process can help to build resilience and strength, to cope more effectively with life situations and to feel more in control and be able to take relevant actions and make better decisions.

FAQ

How many sessions will I need?
It rather depends on what you would like to work on, but generally I work with between 6-20 sessions. I work both short and longer-term depending on individual requirements.

How do I know if I need counselling?
You may know if you have particular issues that you wish to work with, or it may just be that things are not feeling quite as they normally do - or life may just not be working too well. Alternatively friends, family or workmates may be concerned about you.

What happens in the initial consultation?
The initial 15 minute consultation takes place on the phone and is an opportunity to understand why you are seeking therapy and to see if we are able to work together. This is free of charge.

What are the fees?
Telephone counselling is charged at £60 for a 50 minute session.
Nottinghamshire face to face counselling sessions are charged at £60 for a 50 minute session.

What happens in the counselling sessions?
The session is always led by you, the client. You are free to talk about whatever you wish to discuss and my role is to help you explore and make sense of your emotions and support you to help you arrive at your own solutions. Counselling will consider both what is happening now but may also explore the impact of your past.

What if counselling hasn't worked for me in the past?
It may have been the wrong time or possibly the wrong therapist. It is important to find a therapist that you connect with and feel comfortable working with as this can make a great difference.

What is Hypnosis?

Clinical hypnotherapy can be used as a standalone treatment or alongside talking therapy. The key to our wellbeing and health is within us and hypnotherapy is a therapeutic tool which helps us to focus the mind and access our full potential and facilitate change.

Hypnosis encourages a calm relaxed state of mind which allows our attention to become focused thereby by-passing the critical part of mind to work with the subconscious where emotional drivers and belief systems are stored.

Utilising hypnotic visualisation is similar to guided meditation. This can help to bring about changes to the way you feel and think about a problem, encouraging the mind to be more receptive to positive suggestions.

Hypnotherapy can be used to ....

Reduce stress and anxiety
Manage panic attacks
Manage weight
Stop smoking
Build confidence and self-esteem
Change addictions and behaviour patterns
Assist with grief and loss
Overcome sleep disorders
Explore and resolve family and relationship issues
Manage fears and phobias
Enhance performance/Goal achievement
Manage pain reduction for stress related conditions.
